Test Scene

Simon was busy in the lab, not paying much attention to anything around him. He was carefully leaning over the lab table, carefully adjusting the wiring inside the drone.

"Okay, it's okay," he assured it. "I'm just going to clip this little wire in here... We'll have you flying again in no time..."

It was an emergency of epic proportions. Nikki rarely needed help but...she was frantic, looking in doorways as she moved down the hall at a quick pace, doubling back when she saw the back of his head,

"Simon! You're smart, I need your help..it's important."

Simon made a startled noise, shook out of his state of deep concentration.

"Aaaaagent Coulson!" he said, turning around. "Wh-what can I do for you?"

She moved around the table so it was between them, her face serious, "This is of the highest security clearance...Eyes only, do you understand?"

Okay, this was scary serious. Not that Agent Coulson wasn't kind of scary on her own.

He gulped, then nodded. "I understand."

[shieldbrat]

She stared at him for a long, hard moment...before putting a cell phone on the table. The new iphone to be exact. "My contacts. They wont sync up."

And people thought the Coulsons didnt have a sense of humor.

Okay, he was pretty sure he missed something here.

"...what?"

[shieldbrat]

"I should of never got an apple product. Nothing will sync up, my contacts, itunes...I *need* my I tunes, Simon."

"Apple... Apple makes terrible products," Simon managed. "You should have gone with the new StarkPhone. ...Of course, those aren't allowed inside, so maybe not?"

He picked it up tentatively. "I, ah, I can look at it though."

She pursed her lips, frowning, "Men and technology...just once I'd like to make a good choice. I'd appreciate it...and I'll owe you one. Got anyone you want shot?" that had to be a joke, right?

...right...?

A panicked look passed over his face. "What? Oh, no, no, I wouldn't want anyone sho.... Right. You're kidding. Of course."

Because that beat the alternative.

He opened the menu on the phone. Because technology was safer and understandable. "Hmmm."

She used his distraction to move around his space, looking around the lab and eventually winding up behind him as she leaned down, her cheek right next to his as she looked at what he was doing, "I tried to put in my email address..it just...vibrated at me in a hostile manner."

Okay, that was... close. Simon's hands were shaking as he tried very hard not to drop the phone.

"Oh, okay, let me see..." He frowned. "Where did you buy this phone?"

"Off a guy." Hey, she lived in New York City, it's kinda what you did! "Is it stolen? I told him if it was stolen I'd hunt him down..."

He frowned again, then became more panicked. "No, no, no, this is bad..."

He moved more quickly than most people would expect of him, unplugging various devices as he ran about the lab, before finally slamming some sort of glass dome over the phone.

"Ah ha!" he yelled. "Got you, you cheeky little bugger..."

She stared at him for a long, long minute, hoping that what she suspected didn't just happen. Fury would keel haul her off the edge of the helicarrier if she had brought a virus aboard. "I take it I didn't just save myself an upgrade fee..."

"That," Simon said, "just attempted to upload a HYDRA spyware into our mainframe. If you'd brought in in here even 10 seconds later, it probably would have succeeded."

He gave the phone a death glare. "But I caught you, you bloody piece of trash, didn't I? Thought you could pull one over on me, but now you're in a signal isolation dome!"

She shook her head in utter disbelieving disgust, "If Fury doesn't shoot me, I just might do it myself."

Simon started plugging things back in, flipping a few additional switches as he did so, before sitting down in front of a computer, typing furiously.

"I'll have to do a complete system sweep, to make sure it didn't pre-load any surprises... What were you thinking, just buying something off the street like that?!"

"I was thinking I was saving myself $200. Listen, I get it, maybe better than you. There's a bigger problem. Security has been breached before I ever bought it. Every single field agent could be at risk as we speak."

Simon's hands flew over the keys, typing furiously. "Maybe," he said. "I don't think the beastie started transmitting until it was inside, but it took it a while to boot up."

[shieldbrat]

"But they knew who to target. I've been doing this a long time, there wasn't a single warning sign, a single instinct...SHIELD goes to great lengths to protect the identities of its operatives. They knew who I was."

[simon_didnt_say]

Simon's eyes widened. "Okay, that is big."

[shieldbrat]

"You have no idea. Come on. We need to see Fury. Now."

[simon_didnt_say]

Simon gulped nervously.

"F-f-f-Fury? Me?"

[shieldbrat]

"Man up Fitzy."

[simon_didnt_say]

He swallowed nervously again.

"Oh... okay."
